Wednesday Weigh-In

Wednesday Weigh-In

Yes, you are correct, its actually Thursday. Let me just say that in the term “Wednesday Weigh-In”, I use the word “Wednesday” loosely. Thursday is right next to Wednesday right? CLOSE ENOUGH.

In all seriousness, I did truly have intentions of posting yesterday – as I told you I would – but it fell off my ‘plate’ and I got busy, got tired…and then it got late. Story of my life, I know.

OSB – Don’t ask me how, but I somehow lost two pounds. I can take NO CREDIT for this loss because when I was sick my diet consisted of whatever tasted good to me. The problem is that the only things that tasted good were:
!. French fries
2. Ice Cream

Maybe the sporadic exercise has actually helped and is just showing up now. Maybe.

And speaking of sporadic exercise, I have really only been walking – no running. The C25K is HARD. I have not given up. I can’t give up. I have to do this. I want to do this. I have gotten so discouraged and LAZY (that’s right…I own it).

Exercise has always been such a hard thing for me. I KNOW its good for me. I feel GREAT when I do it. I notice changes in my body almost immediately when I am consistently exercising. But, I lose steam. I haven’t found a way to KEEP IT UP.

And it’s a vicious cycle. I don’t exercise because I am tired. I am tired because I don’t exercise.

I know that I should be getting up before the babies instead of trying to exercise after they’ve gone to bed but…ARE YOU SERIOUS? The idea of getting up any earlier than I do makes me more tired.
Oh look, I am falling asleep now. No, seriously.

I have had some success going walking with them in the afternoon. I just wear Alexis and push the boys in the double stroller. Now that they’ve really dropped the third nap, I have so much more freedom to go walking with them. But that is not consistent either. It depends on what we’ve got going on.
Here’s the thing. I am a schedule person. So I should just schedule exercise and stick to it vehemently the way I stick to their naps and feedings etc. Maybe that will force me to plan for it instead of trying to squeeze it in.

I am tired of feeling crappy. I really am. My whole goal of getting “HOT by their first birthday” is not looking so good.

I have such a long list. Adding another regular thing seems so difficult because I am already squeezing to get my stuff done as it is.
Perspective: I am still working on replying to e-mails I received months ago. Also, I am just now getting thank you cards out….from A YEAR AGO.
Not to mention the bill paying, meal planning, coupon organizing, toilet cleaining, laundry, budget planning, attempted baby food making, lame attempt at keeping my house clean and organized...all while they are sleeping. Forget how I am running around while they are awake.

You get the picture. I know I am no different than any of you. We all do a lot, whether we work outside of the house or stay home. My questions is...how do I add exercise to the mix and stay on it?

You exercising moms out there…HOW DO YOU DO IT CONSISTENTLY? What did you do to make it a priority? What keeps you going? Do you love to exercise? Or do you hate it as much as I do and just push through? Aren’t you tired? Give it to me real, sisters.

Wednesday Weigh-In

Wednesday Weigh-In
What a week so far! This past weekend was rough as I spent most of it in bed with fever, aches and the whole nine yards. Brian spend the entire weekend being Superdad and doing almost all of the feedings by himself. I did manage to still bathe the babies each night before going right back to bed. This cold has been a real doozy and I've been hit HARD. Since I was still so sick, Brian stayed home on Monday to take care of the babies. Brian did most of the care-giving during my sickest days because:

1. We felt we had a better chance of keeping the babies healthy if I stayed as far away from them as possible.

2. We felt the chances of them staying healthy would further improve by my getting WELL as QUICKLY as possible. Which meant resting as much as possible. Which is hard for me! I tend to push it!

I know that Moms don't usually get any sick days so I am super grateful to Brian for digging in over the weekend and taking much of the load. It is worth it in the long run to get 'Mommy' back in good health quickly but I know he is exhausted. He takes such good care of all of us. :)

This week has been rough since I am not feeling all better AND because, as much as we tried to prevent it, the babies have been a little under the weather. Runny noses and whining on top of the usual teething fussiness make for exhausting days for an already under the weather Mommy. Add to it the sticky mess to clean up at the end of the night which consists of their snot and drool all over everything and every toy, and I am sitting here at 10:30pm having finally sat down and totally exhausted. Without going into too many details, this evening was topped off with baseball size poop and finding the boys playing in someone's vomit - AFTER I had already given two baths. Delicious. Before bedtime, I managed to give five baths to three babies...all within one hour. I am exhausted.
And I just realized that the puke smell that I have been sniffing out for the past 3 hours is coming from MY T-SHIRT...I never changed after cleaning the babies up and putting them down for bed.

I AM THE STINK THAT I SMELL.

How's THAT for having my crap together? Donna Reed has nothing on me.
Not only is my hair femininely styled in a bird's nest up-do, but my fashionable outfit -made up of an oversized t-shirt and boxer shorts - is just plain sexy. The puke 'fragrance' is just enough to complete the ensemble. I think Brian is using some serious self-control to keep his hands off of me.

I am ready for bed and there are a couple of Nyquil with my name on them for sure! Brian is in the kitchen fininshing dishes, bless his heart. He REALLY needs a break! At least we got to sit down to have a quick dinner together before the great puke-clean-up of 2008. It actually wasn't so bad. :)
But, forget my complaining...Here's some exciting news! This week is the first week that all three babies have been holding their own bottles! HALLELUJAH! No more propping! I do still enjoy holding a baby and kissing his/her fingers while feeding them but its so nice to be able to also just hand him/her their bottle and say, "Here you go! Go to town!" They eat so fast now too! I remember the days when a bottle feeding would take over an hour. Now...MINUTES! More time for the really messy stuff. :)

Here's a video of them all holding their own bottles:

Oh, and on the OSB front? Let's just say that the healthiest food I've eaten have been the Airborne tablets that I dissolved into some water. But I've gained NO WEIGHT! I can't take credit for it though. Food just doesn't taste as good with a stuffy nose. :)
And the Couch to 5 K has been more like Couch to Bed. But when I feel better, I will do better. Or something like that.
My Nyquil and my box of lotion tissue are calling me...goodnight!

Wednesday Weigh-In

Wednesday Weigh-In

Its actually Tuesday night and I've got no good news on the OSB front. Let's just get that out of the way. And Couch 2 5 k has been 'OK' except I've done the worst thing I could have possibly done. I've started watching LOST again. I couldn't resist.

To give you an idea of how obsessed I've been, I started where I left off a few months ago. I popped in the season two DVD about a week and a half ago. Now, I am halfway through season four. Ridiculous. I can't stop.

Thanks A lot, Andy.

And to answer your question, NO, I don't suddenly have all this new free time. This LOST obsession is stealing from my sleep and my exercise. That's right, I am not sleeping enough AND not exercising enough. I AM A HEALTH AND FITNESS ROLE MODEL.

Now, I am at the point where I just need to get through it. I can't stop. My eyes are BURNING and my eyelids are heavy but I just need to watch! Its totally crack. But I have that weird feeling I get when I am nearing the end of a really good book. I don't want it to end, so I draw out the last pages because I know that once I am done reading them - ITS OVER. And then I am left with that empty feeling. I anticipate feeling that way when I get all caught up with the show. And the new episodes don't start until January! How will I survive? WHAT will I do??? Maybe I'll actually get off my ass again and go running and actually get to sleep at a decent hour. That's what.

*Sigh*

Anyhow, today I met with Niki, a fellow multiples mom (She's actually got FOUR kids altogether), for a walk in Montrose. Though we only moved a short distance away, I miss living there. Before pregnancy and babies, Brian and I used to take walks through town in the evening. It was nice to be able to walk to restaurants. Of course, that was back when we had two incomes and no kids and actually went to restaurants. HA! Times have certainly changed! I love it though! :) And of course, I LOVE where we live now. I cannot imagine my days with these three big babies in that small apartment where we used to live. The five of us were so cramped there! Thank goodness my in-laws helped us find this much bigger place to live. Totally worth moving with four month old triplets - although, just thinking back to that time still gives me a headache.

Back to the walk...it was the first time I had seen Niki since my pregnancy (I think). She has been such a positive force throughout this process for me. Although we didn't even know each other that well, as soon as she found out about my triplet pregnancy through a mutual friend (Hi Jenny!), she reached out to me and gave me lots of encouragement and support. She also gave me lots of STUFF! That's right, baby clothes, a twins nursing pillow, incredible advice for managing more than one newborn, and lots more! Her suggestions about what to use (types of burp cloths, lotion, the BEST receiving blankets, etc.) have all been SPOT ON. It has taken over nine months (I KNOW...your monthly update is coming.) for me to actually get together with her. But the cool thing is that she totally understands having been there herself. Never gave me crap for taking too long to return e-mails/phone calls/texts...especially in the thick of it when the babies had just come home. She dropped things off on our doorstep so as not to wake up babies or delirious mommy. I honestly can't remember any of it but I do think of her help everytime I put the babies in any of the clothes she passed down to us. All of her help has been just a mom reaching out to a mom, with no expectation. I am so grateful for her graciousness and understanding and look forward to more walks and playdates! :)
Of course, in my sweaty race to get myself and three babies out of the house, I forgot to grab my camera. Thankfully, Niki remembered hers and got these shots of us with the babies (her daughter took these shots for us):

Look how cute our babies are! And check out that guy walking by...staring at all the babies! We got a lot of looks like these...
Apparenly, we were quite a spectacle and got lots of comments and turning heads. Besides the oppressive heat, it was great. We even stopped for frozen yogurt, which was perfect.

After our walk, I got adventurous and decided to stop at the grocery store for a couple of things before heading home. This was the first time I went to the grocery store ALONE with the babies and we were just fine! In fact they were having a blast, giggling and singing in the aisles. And they didn't even squawk as I changed each of their diapers in the front seat of the truck before going in. That must have been a nice sight for passers-by in the parking lot. In the store, I got LOTS of looks and lots of questions and comments. People were mostly nice, except one person who gave the "Triplets??? Better YOU than ME!" comment. Whatever lady! I agree!
So, aside from a few people coughing around the babies (I actually told someone to step away as they continued to approach the strollers while coughing) and another lady REACHING IN to touch Jackson, the day was great!

So here's to a better OSB week and to me actually running more than once. Wish me luck.

P.S. In case you hadn't noticed, the blog has been under construction. Fellow triplet mama, Stefanie, has been working on a whole new look for me and I am loving it! I think all that's left now is some tweaking here and there but overall, don't you like it!? I'll let you know when its all 'done'. Thanks Stefanie!!

Wednesday Weigh-In

So I know that I totally skipped last week's OSB Wednesday Weigh-in post and for that I apologize. Let me update you thus far on my de-chubbification.

In the interest of brevity, I give you my update in bullet points:

· For now, I am NOT going to Weight Watchers meetings. Instead, I have decided to do the point counting at home. I have all the supplies (points counter, scale, journal). Meetings would cost me $40+ a month and that is a lot of money when you’re on one income. That $40 could instead buy an extra large case of diapers, a new sports bra, gas for the car, a casual dinner IN A RESTAURANT for me and Brian. And that one itself is pretty exciting because instead of being sweaty, greasy and smelling like ointment I can brush my hair! Put on a bra! Wear a little makeup! And sit down for a meal that I don’t have to make or clean! IS THERE EVEN A CHOICE?

· And speaking of sports bra, I’ve been doing the Couch to 5K Revolution on the treadmill and I LOVE it! I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy it but I really do. Once the babies go to bed for the night, I just zone out and go to town, sweatin' like a hog on the treadmill. I feel SO much better! Now, I just gotta deal with the fanny pack.

· According to the scale at home I’ve lost @2 lbs. Yes, I know that’s not a lot but its progress and its better than getting fatter. I was doing that REALLY FAST.

· And somewhat related but not really…Metformin. I’ve been taking it for over a month now for my PCOS symptoms. Other than the exciting digestive symptoms (either bloating or diarrhea…that’s right, I just typed DIARRHEA and I’m NOT even pregnant!!!). The gastrointestinal symptoms seem to have become more manageable, thank goodness, and I am starting to see a little change. I got a period which is good, I think. I don’t even know. My guess is I am going to be on it for a while before I know whether or not it will really have any effect on my PCOS symptoms. Until then, I am hopeful.

SO there it is. Not too exciting but at least I’m finally updating! Good luck to my fellow OSBers this week!
Also, if you are interested on any info regarding the Couch to 5K program just e-mail me! I’ll try to reply sometime this year. Just kidding! Mostly.
So much for brevity!
